Whiplash treatment
Whiplash Treatment relies on the various symptoms present. Unfortunately, most whiplash treatment have not been well tested to determine their performance.
The most important issue in the whiplash treatment is ideal education of the patient about their injury. Such as information on the cause, potential treatments, and likely outcomes. Patients should fully understand it was a real injury, but that nearly all patients are able to full recover. Patients that do not receive this information are usually much more prone to develop the more chronic “whiplash associated disorder.”
The most common treatment:
1. Pain – painkillers:
Such as Tylenol (paracetamol) should help reduce whiplash injury pain. Some doctors may counsel patients to take painkillers usually, not only when the pain is severe. It is important not to exceed the dose. If pain is worse the doctor may prescribe codeine, or some other stronger painkiller. Sometimes codeine with Tylenol (paracetamol) are prescribed together .
2. NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs):
Such as ibuprofen may help with the (inflammation). should concele doctor and not usually recommended
3. Posture:
A qualified health care professional should train the patient how to keep an upright good posture, for example, keeping the back straight when walking, standing or sitting, as this can prevent neck pain and stiffness from getting worse. A firm pillow may help maintain good posture while sleeping
4. Muscle relaxants:
These may help alleviate muscle spasms. As muscle relaxants may cause drowsiness, most doctors advise their patients to take them at bedtime .
5. Injections:
Corticosteroid or lidocaine injections may help relieve muscle spasms.
6. Ice-pack:
Application ice-pack immediately after the injury occurs, or early, helps reduce swelling (inflammation). Wrap the ice in a towel or some protective barrier – do not apply ice directly towards the skin. An ice-pack session should last from 10 to 30 minutes.
7. Collars:

Soft foam collars used to be well-known for whiplash injury treatment. However, immobilizing the neck for a long time may undermine recovery, because muscle bulk and strength is reduced. If a cervical collar is required, it should generally be worn for more than three hours at a time. For some patients who keep waking up with whiplash pain, a collar may help get a good night’s sleep.
8. Osteopathy:
In Western Europe osteopathy is usually used to treat whiplash. Osteopathy uses manipulation to treat back, neck, and sports injuries
